Examples of Supported Analyses and Evaluations
Analysis of Battery Constituent Materials Based on Laser Ablation Inductively
Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS)
This method is effective as a tool for analyzing deterioration and fault of battery constituent materials (positive electrode material and negative electrode material) and for quality control.
Features and Specifications of LA-ICP-MS
-
LA-ICP-MS supports direct solid analysis by linking the laser ablation (LA) technique with ICP- MS.
Features
- Rapid high-sensitivity analysis
- Capable of performing local analysis and analysis in the depth direction (capable of performing measurement limited to an arbitrary position)
- Requiring almost no preparation, close to non-destructive analysis
- Also capable of directly analyzing a solid sample that is difficult to dissolve
- A broad range of measurable concentrations (from % to ppm)
- Simultaneous analysis of multiple elements
- The specimen is set in an environment without exposure to atmosphere (in an inert environment)
Covered elements: from Li to U (excluding gas components)
Case Example of Analysis: Case Where Distribution of the Elements of a Button Battery's Positive Electrode Material (MNO2) is Analyzed (Mapping Analysis and Line Analysis)
The system is capable of observing the difference in Li concentration distribution in the positive electrode (MnO2) in different states (Fig. 1 and 2).
